Although it doesn't entirely feel like it, it is technically fall here in Halifax. The leaves are turning colours and some have began falling beautifully to the ground. My intention was to blog only about fall fashion, but I decided to incorporate how you can wear your existing summer pieces with a few new fall fashion trends. Who can really think about wearing a chunky sweater and boots with the weather we're still having?!
Oh, and did I mention that I am absolutely loving this season's fashion and that I am addicted to visiting Zara and H&M at the http://halifaxshoppingcentre.com...? because I am!
Embelishments - You are seeing them everywhere and on everything. From shoes to tops, dresses to jewelery. Such pretty detail that can really make a statement with any basic piece you have. Zara has these great collar style necklaces that you can add to any basic top to "pop" your outfit. There are many different ways to style this necklace from casual to dress. A pair of jeans with a basic white tee, or for a sleeker look, a mono tone outfit to add a pop of colour. https://www.zara.com/ca/en/woman/accessories/jewellery/collar-style-necklace-c499007p4946616.html.
Velvet - Loving this trend in so many ways! It has a luxurious look and feel, and can be worn both casually and dressy. Add a velvet jacket over your jeans or pants with a light weight top and you're good to go. There are velvet shoes (I just purchased a pair of aubergine colour flats from Zara that I love and wear now) and velvet hand bags with embroidery. There are many feminine printed velvet dresses that can be worn now with slides and when the weather gets cooler, the trending over the knee boot. The possibilities are endless. http://www.sweetpeahalifax.com/shop/velvet-amethyst-dress.
Ruffles and bell sleeves - Did I mention that I'm loving almost everything this season? lol I love finding things that are feminine inspired, delicate, and sexy at the same time. When it comes to shirts and blouses, I have a hard time fitting into button down shirts. My problem is the middle button always pops! I can't say I'm "large", I'm average, but I believe I only own 1 button down shirt. So this season I have found shirts with just 3-4 buttons at the top, or no buttons at all with the most precious detailing on the sleeves. When the sleeves have the detail, your attention is drawn there. https://sattvaboutique.com/collections/new-arrivals/products/marigold-romana-top
Red and Mustard - You can definitely wear these two colours together for a bold look, but they are both unique colours and sometimes nice left to stand out on their own. I love red and the way it livens up the neutral colours. Pair it with colours like light grey, camel, dark brown, purple, and different shades of green. Believe it or not, red is a good colour for most people. I think it's a colour of confidence and we all need that in our lives sometimes. http://www2.hm.com/en_ca/productpage.0563538001.html
Mustard is a more difficult shade to wear against your skin. On some people it makes them look yellow and drains them out. On others it makes their skin look brighter. I am one of those people whose skin looks yellow. I was very drawn to this colour this season and I really wanted to buy something with this colour. So I bought a knit skirt and matched it with a black knit sweater. I can wear this skirt now with flats and later on I will wear it with leggings and ankle booties. I can't wait! So, if this colour works for you, you have so many choices. However, if you are like me and love the colour, purchase a bottom or jacket/ coat and pair it with a colour that's good against your skin like rich jewel tones.
And last but not least, floral print. It's keeping strong again this season. You can dress in floral print literally from top to bottom if that's your kind of thing. I personally like to break it up by wearing a muted piece on top or bottom. But whatever you like, you have plenty of options to choose from. Since florals are keeping strong, if you have a floral print dress from the summer wear it now with leggings, short booties, or slides and a knit cardigan over top. Finish your fall look with a beret hat and voila!
There really are a lot of beautiful fashion pieces this season. I am certainly having lots of fun putting outfits together for clients, but I'm also having to restrain from shopping for myself too many times! I'm really hoping that this season you go out and buy something fun and pretty and let go of, "I don't think I can wear that". You can!
I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving! I feel blessed and I am grateful to be here on this beautiful earth...and thankful to all of you who have given me a purpose to do what I love to do.
